Dutch Harbour, Alaska, May 31th: the United States' largest fishing port!

How much cat food can a 3,000 soul village really produce? Well apparently enough to become the largest port in the United States of America. I mean sure it is off season and DH (yeah, cool people don't write Dutch Harbour, duh) is relatively empty, but you can feel the Deadliest Catch vibes around town, the XtraTuff fishing boots look on the Alaskan gals and the bib & beard look for the gents … A true fishing port, and it will be filling up as the season starts on June 1st.

Our incredibly scenic arrival, topped by the quickest custom check ever registered upon arrival in US territory, was quickly followed by an immediate ride to town to get – in the following order: a hot shower (oh so long overdue), beer and food. Or beer, food, and a shower. Or a beer in shower after having ordered a couple of burgers. Didn't matter really.

And the Unalaska Recreational Centre, its amazing staff, and the Norwegian Rat Saloon, catered for all our needs and so much more! Pulled pork burgers, pizzas, local IPAs, tequila, whisky, blue-eyed sweethearts, internet … Voted best bar of Dutch Harbour by the Infinity crew!

But less talking, more working: I thought Majuro had been hard work but I'm apparently in for a hell of a second work month upon our aging ferrocement wre... I meant our proud and valiant yacht!

See you at the bar,

Vicou the Sea Gypsy
